The new hair necessity in my book or “bag-of-products” is dry shampoo. Why should anyone have to give up on a great new blow-out due to humid weather, sweat or frizzy hair? Or, there are those of us that don’t want to wash our hair once per day so we don’t dry out our lustrous locks.

I live in Miami, so the weather makes it near impossible to keep a great blow-out for very long. I went on a mission and tried a few different dry shampoos ranging in price from $45.00 to $5.00. The winner? TRESemme’s “Fresh Start” line.

You can find it in just about any drugstore at a great price (about $5.00). They offer various formulas depending on your hair type. Choose from: “Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo”, “Fresh Start Strengthening Dry Shampoo” or “Fresh Start Smoothing Dry Shampoo”. They have a foam formula as well. Admittedly, I have not tried the foam but give it a try and get back to me. They have formulated the product to remove odor, and excess oil, no water needed.

Today I’m not focusing on a product I love. I have way too many products to share, and thought I would mention an article I read in the WSJ this morning about NEW YORK FASHION WEEK!

“New York Fashion Week Takes Shape” - February 6, 2012 - Wall Street Journal.

Digital technologies and social media, as we all know (or are at least becoming familiar) play a large role in corporate images, branding, and entertainment. It’s no longer necessary to get on that special VIP list to see the latest in fashion (or any other top-notch-A-list even) we can see it on our cell phones, Ipads and computer screens! This year’s fashion week (really week and a half, as it’s 9 days long) will be streamed live.

Immediate, virtual access, draws big consumer viewership, and therefore results in urgency for designers to gain a slice of the spotlight-pie. Levi’s will be having a runway show this year (when was the last time they had a show / or did they ever)? And, quoted: “Prabel Gurung will show a new label, called ICB by Prabel Gurung, via an online-only digital show that will air on Feb. 15 (mark your calendar). It is the debut of a new digital venture by communications and production house KCD, which plans to produce more online-only shows in the future”.

I noticed a trend with cats, or felines rather, a while back. For me it was really all about the jaguar (SO SEXY)… And, while I love make-up, it was even more so about my best friend’s new, kick-ass bracelet that got me hooked to the jaguar theme. The bracelet looks like something you would buy from Cartier, and it probably was from Cartier, knowing her. Anyway, once I saw it, I wanted one too (aren’t us girls like that – especially when it’s our bestie sporting something new and shiny)?

This weekend I was reading ELLE Magazine, taking in some leisurely time to myself and saw this eye makeup by Paul and Joe. I loved the colors, and it made me think of my friend’s jaguar bracelet (blast to the past). The colors go great together. The lighter color for your inner eyelid and darker for the corners!

Her bracelet looks a bit more like this…. HA!

Biking in the sun!

I did some biking in Tepoztlan, Mexico over the holidays. If you haven’t been there it’s at an altitude of about 700ft (that’s nearing the height of some Colorado Rocky Mt people). While it’s a beautiful place, at those heights one has to be careful of the sunshine and skin protection! I would love to tell you about the places we rode but this is a beauty product blog after all ; )

I brought some TOCCA Stella Sunscreen towelettes with me and they did just the trick. It’s the first time I’ve used them, but I would rate them 9/10.

They’re 30 SPF, so you get plenty of protection. They are both water and sweat resistant, so you don’t have to worry about it rubbing off, sweating off, or re-applying multiple times. They smell great, they have the Stella traditional scent, so if you’re like me and want to be a hard-core bike rider (or any sports-goer) whilst smelling pretty you can do so (of course I got made fun of for my huge-Hollywood sunglasses, and smell-good-sunscreen while being a bad ass biker)…but I think I rocked it. And, no worries, they’re hypoallergenic, so people with scent-allergies wont be overwhelmed.

I these travel size towelettes a 9/10 because 1 towel doesn’t cover your whole body, but then again, it’s a small enough package that you can put it in your bike pouch and two towels does the trick.

Might want to try them if you’re out there in the sun skiing, biking, swimming or hiking this year! They’re $28 for a package, can be found in Sephora, Amazon, and some drug stores.

It’s always a good time to take care of your skin!

Quality Products for Decades!

Like every other teenage girl, I went through a phase of excessive pimples and changing hormones, that lead to a strict skin regimen. I had to start washing my face and using products that worked with my skin chemistry.

My mother introduced me to Kiehl’s, the same product her mother introduced to her during her teenage years. Kiehl’s has been around since 1851, and are known to gear their products towards quality natural abstracts and substances rather than base their products solely on aesthetics. For those of us who are big fans, they’ve not only kept some of their original products, that our mothers and grandmothers introduced us to, but have added some new products that have only made us bigger fans!

My staple item, the one I started using at age 13, is their Sodium PCA Oil-Free Moisturizer (pictured below).

But it doesn’t stop there… I’ve decided to go all out and post a few other products I DIE FOR!

A few toner options… I mix and match…

Their newer shampoos, created for different hair types smell fantastic (disregard the literal name)!

And last but not least, as I could go on forever, a lip balm that protects and smooths, Kiehl’s LIP BALM #1.

What is a girl to do when she wants to cover up a few read spots or breakouts (we all get them) while not feeling like you’re causing more damage to your skin?

I’m one of those girls that loves to put on a bit of make-up in the morning but not weigh myself down with products. I love a creamy concealer for a night out, or a special occasion. But, I’ve been looking for something to cover up some blotches, and need it to last all day at work without leaving marks on my clothes or feeling greasy. Its been hard to find the right product. So, I asked a friend of mine that always has great skin and a natural look.

She suggested bareMinerals Matte, pictured below, by Bare Escentuals. This product has SPF (great), is light and has a silky feel when worn. BareMinerals Matte is infused with rare minerals, has anti-aging ingredients and doesn’t cake on your skin.

I’m a happy girl with this product. It wasn’t expensive (about $28) and can be found at Sephora or on the Bare Escentuals website (bareescentuals.com). I bought the Bare Escentuals Heavenly Face Brush as well. It has been a great brush for this loose powder.

I love lathering up in just about anything that will protect my skin, make it soft, and smell de-lish.

I’m really fond of the Moroccan Oil products, which has led me to researching some other similar products. One in particular, Monoi Tahitian oil. Famed by Polynesian residents, this oil is a delicate blend of coconut oil scented with Gardenia flowers and fresh Tiaré Tahitian flowers (a type of Tahitian Gardenia flower). The smell is incredible! Those of you sun-addicts might try it as a suntan oil, but don’t over-do-it on the rays, as there’s no SPF in this product.

Simple Nutrition Always Wins!

Just like feeding our bodies, “feeding” our hair with healthy products is equally important. I’ve been experimenting with shampoos for a while now (I color my hair every two months) and am fanatic about keeping it healthy. As much as I wish I was a natural blond, that phase of my life passed shortly after age 8…. Sooo, I hit the salon. To reverse the damage of intensive coloring, ironing, curling and drying, I find investing in some good hair products helps maintain all the money I spend to get my hair looking the way it is!

I have a few favorite shampoos and am adamant about a good conditioner! A new favorite is Phyto-Shampoo. Phyto was created to reverse harmful effects and damaged locks. There are no chemicals in their shampoo; the base of their shampoo is made from plant extracts. “Phyto”, remember that word from biology classes?

Don’t let your hair dessert you before its time! Revive your hair by using natural products instead of “faking” your hair into looking healthy!

On-the-go tricks

What girl isn’t busy these days? Being busy myself, I understand the needs of having your “quick-fix make-up solutions” ready for your on-the-go needs. I have an on-the-go make-up remover that works great (I use it at home too).

It turns out contact solution not only cleans your contacts (and your glasses by the way) but does wonders to clean up your eye liner that has gotten smudged over the day, or taking a bit of mascara off so you can re-apply and boost your lashes. I use a small amount on a kleenex or Q-tip if you have one, and rub right under my eyes towards the end of my day. It gives me a clean base to re-apply my make-up before leaving work for cocktail hour! Give it a try.

Sorry to those of you who don’t wear contacts as this trick is limited to those who have contact solution…. But hey, maybe your co-worker-friends have some solution you can use??!
